It's time to mark your calendars for Denim Day 2024 on April 24th! This annual campaign is more than just a fashion statement - it's a powerful movement aimed at raising awareness about sexual violence and showing solidarity with survivors.


So, how did Denim Day start? Back in the 1990s, an Italian Supreme Court ruling overturned a rape conviction because the victim was wearing tight jeans, implying she must have helped remove them, therefore consenting to the assault. Outraged by this decision, women in the Italian Parliament wore jeans to work in solidarity with the survivor. This act of protest inspired the creation of Denim Day, encouraging people worldwide to wear denim to show support for survivors and challenge harmful misconceptions about sexual violence.


What does Denim Day mean? It's a symbol of protest against victim-blaming and a reminder that no one ever asks to be assaulted, regardless of what they wear. By wearing denim on this day, we stand united in advocating for consent, respect, and justice for all survivors.


How can you support Denim Day and survivors of sexual violence? Here are some simple ways to get involved:

Allied with other advocate organizations, we stand unified in our commitment to provide help and access to resources for those in dire need.
